Shikoku 88 Temple Henro
The Shikoku Henro, often just referred to as th 'Henro', is a pilgrimage and a magnificent journey of approximately 1150 kms around Shikoku to visit 88 sacred Buddhist temples. 'Journey' being the key word here as never has the oft quoted "its the journey not the destination" been more appropriate. Many regard the Henro as a journey towards enlightenment, and a pilgrim is said to 'follow in the footsteps' of Kobo Daishi and his path to enlightenment on this journey 1200 years ago. Kobo Daishi (also khown as Kukai) is one of the most famous figures in Japanese history and the founder of Shingon Buddhism.
