About Greg Northby Artiste de Sketche
Hi there, my name is Greg Northby, an Artiste de Sketche*, and I live, and enjoy retirement, in Belli Park in the beautiful Queensland Sunshine Coast hinterland area near the market town of Eumundi, Australia.
This website is a 'show & tell' of my Urban Sketching, Travel Sketching and Life Drawing work.
I have included galleries all of my 'pen & wash' Urban and Travel sketches, but due to data space restrictions I have only included a brief sampling of my Life Drawing sketches (both 'pen & wash' and charcoals). The 'pen & wash' sketches are all on A4 paper and the charcoals are all on paper around 650 x 450 mm.
The Urban and Travel Sketches were done 'live' wherever possible, weather and practicality permitting [a keen eye might spot a predominance of indoor work in the '2015 UK/Ire pad' due to my hands refusal to work below 12 Celsius!]. Where a sketch was done from a photograph I have marked it with a # symbol. The major exception is the '2014 UK pad2' which was all done from photos after my return to Australia. I hope to create a second pad with this years trip as well.
All Life Drawings were sketched from live models, either with the Noosa Life Art Circle or with the Wallace House Life Drawing group.
I have been doing Charcoal life drawings for about 7 years and pen & wash sketches for about 4 years. I enjoy both techniques but there is something extra about creating a personal record of life in your local area and on your travels.

* Is was looking for a descripion of what I do and thought 'Artiste de Sketche' was pretty close. Urban Sketcher or Street Artist weren't too bad but I wanted to cover Life Drawing as well, so, whilst not quite grammatically correct 'Artiste de Sketche' works for me!
